However, volunteer projects you’ve worked on are important to include today as well. The top rated resume writing services will always ask you what you’ve accomplished outside of your employment. These projects could be completely unrelated to your career, such as helping out with your child’s school functions or similar projects. Being well-rounded in all aspects of life is attractive to potential employers today. Leadership Projects Think about all of your leadership projects or experience you’ve had in the past. Leadership doesn’t mean you have to hold the title of being a boss or supervisor, either. Demonstrating leadership qualities as a member of an executive team is just as important as holding a title for a leadership position. Most professional executive resume writers can identify the important leadership positions and qualities you have when you tell them about the different aspects of your previous job. As an executive, demonstrating any leadership qualities will prove valuable for the job you’re applying for, as well as advancement opportunities later on. Ideas You Had Adopted By Your Company Did you have a great idea from a brainstorming session with your team? The top rated resume writing services will tell you to include these ideas in your resume. 6 Winning Executive Resume Writing Strategies - Work It Daily

6 Winning Executive Resume Writing Strategies - Work It Daily Summarizing who you are, major accomplishments you’ve achieved, and skills experience you have to offer into one document is no easy task. You may spend hours to perfect the resume to impress employers, but hiring managers and recruiters may only spend a mere few seconds on it. As unbalanced as it may seem between the job seeker and the hiring manager’s/recruiter’s time with the resume, it is nonetheless an important document to perfect. The resume is what will help pave the way to your next career opportunity. Related: 4 Quick Ways To Improve Your Executive Resume All job seekers need a resume, even those who are fortunate to have a good connection to get into the interview. So here are some strategies to producing a winning resume: 1. Length. Try to keep the resume to 1-2 pages. Certainly, the more experience you have, the more there is to include and executive resumes can run to 3 pages. Make sure what you have warrants its length. Many employers today rely on Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to help filter out resumes of the best candidates for the job. While a long resume may give you more room to make it keyword-rich, no hiring manager looks forward to reviewing a resume that runs on and on. There needs to be a balance, for more tips read: “3 Tips To Get Your Resume In The ‘Yes’ Pile.” 2. Avoid getting creative with graphics. The resume is not the place to get creative with graphics. It needs to have structure in terms of content to get past the ATS. Simple things like tables or logos can break the ATS’ parsing mechanism. Clearly label headings, stick with standard fonts and don’t go any smaller than 11 point size font if you want your information read when in the hands of a human reviewer. For more tips on formatting the resume for the ATS, read: “5 Resume Formatting Rules For The ATS.” 3. Customize. When the hiring manager reviews your resume, it should be read as though it was written specifically for that employer and job. Work to include similar language and the requirements as posted in the job posting to your resume. Address the specific needs in terms of what it is that you have to offer. Highlight the specific skills and experience you have that the employer is looking for. 4. Prioritize. Lead with relevant information first. That means your name and contact information, followed by an Executive Summary, Experience, Skills and Education. Most employers will primarily focus on the Executive Summary, your current and previous job, the company, dates of employment, education and then skim for relevant keywords to inform them if you’re a keeper. Each section of the resume should also be written with prioritization to information. Lead with what’s more important to the employer, not necessary what you’re personally most proud of. 5. Ask yourself if it’s relevant. It’s easy to pack the resume with information - it’s much harder to whittle it down to what’s important. When you fail to ask yourself if the information is relevant, you end up with a resume that runs pages long. A resume with too much information also dilutes the strong message you want to leave with the employer. Focus on what’s relevant and stick to presenting information that shows how you can meet the employer’s exact needs. 6. Review. Review. Review. You need to become an editor when writing your own resume. Lack of attention to spelling and failure to add punch to your content means your resume will get dismissed. If editing is not where you shine, get help! A resume filled with misspellings screams you’re unprofessional. A resume that is dull to read means it’s time for the hiring manager to move on to the next resume. Clearly, resume writing is no easy task, but with the knowledge of the strategies above it’ll help guide you in the right direction. This post was originally published on an earlier date. Why I, As a Female Founder, Want All Women To Ask For a Raise Today

Why I, As a Female Founder, Want All Women To Ask For a Raise Today It welches 515 pm on a busy Wednesday. Most people were clearing out of the office, but I was just getting back to my desk after a crazy day of back-to-back meetings and had a pile of work to do before I could get out the door. At the time, I was the leader of a major corporate sales team and we were missing our targets, which meant that I was having to make budget cuts. Then, out of nowhere, one of my direct reports dropped by my office and sat down in the chair opposite me. Without preamble, he said, Ive been meaning to catch you. I need a raise. Ive been working really hard, and I havent had one in two years.Needless to say, I erupted. I was hungry. I was tired. And I was not in the mood to talk about it, at all.Of course, as the current-day co-founder of Fairygodboss, part of me wishes mora women would take a page from the blustery confidence of this former male employee. He misread the situation, to an inane de gree, and ultimately missed his mark. But he did ask. And this Equal Pay Day, its important that we ask ourselves about asking, and why women arent doing mora of it. Undoubtedly, womens hesitancy to ask for more money is a contributing factor for why the gender pay gap persists (and it does persist, as nearly half of Fairygodboss users can personally attest to). Companies must be fairer in how they compensate, its true, but we also must fulfill our own destinies by getting more aggressive about asking persistently and forcefully for raies. The more women ask for raises, the more well get paid, and the narrower the pay gap will get. Period. So, this April 10th, Id like to ask every woman reading this to go ask for a raise. But before you go running into your bosss office, there are a few things you can and should do to prepare and increase your chances of success. Chief among them? If youre asking for a raise, you have to think a lot about your manager, something my former employee certainly didnt do. The reality is that, in most corporate situations, your manager will need to go out on a limb in order to get you that raise. As a manager, I wish that was something I wish more people women and men alike understood. So as you think about how youll ask for your raise, consider the following1. Timing MattersManagers theyre just like you They have one thousand things on their plates and bosses to please, families to care for, etc and managing can itself be a very time-consuming endeavor. So think about how, where and when you will approach your manager. Clearly there are some times of day and some days of the week when your message will land better. And you should know your boss and his/her quirks... for example, its probably a catastrophically badeanstalt idea to ask me something if its noon and I have not had lunch. First thing Monday morning or last thing on Friday is also probably not a winner.2. Understand Your Companys Budget Cycle and Financial Performan ceMost managers dont have coffers full of money to allocate, so they are beholden to the companys financial process. At most companies, annual budgets dont really allow for discretionary salary increases mid-cycle. If you approach your manager when its not time for corporate budgeting and/or increases, youre making it considerably harder for him/her to help you even if he or she wants to.Moreover, you should try to have an understanding of how your company is performing financially. If you are meeting or exceeding your target, there may be more leeway but if the company is underperforming, it might not be the easiest time for your manager to be able to advocate for you, regardless of your individual performance. For example, during the financial crisis, I was given a target of budget cuts to make. Since I was having to cut heads and programs, I was not terribly excited to be asked for salary increases.3. Make the Business CaseLike any other idea or investment, you should have a soli d geschftliches miteinander case for what you will deliver in the next 12 months. I have personally found that people asking for raises tend to focus on their past accomplishments which are important for sure. But if you think about the situation in a business context, the strongest case you can make is to say, If you invest this money in me, heres what I will deliver for you. Heres the return youll receive on your investment.4. Whats in it for Your Manager? There have definitely been times when I have used my political capital to ask for a raise for a team member only to be burned when he or she still left after getting the raise. Keep in mind that your manager has a lot to lose when advocating for you. How can you help put them at ease? What do they care about? Its important to help show your manager that a) youll be loyal, and b) youll help them advance their goals, whatever those are. Remind your manager how you make his/her life easier, and can continue to do so even more .5. Expect to Hear No. Then Dont Take No For An Answer.Any smart manager will say no to your request the first time. Before going to bat for you, he/she is checking to see just how important the raise is to you. So if you ask and hear no and then drop the topic, you can be sure you wont get your raise. When men on my team were looking for a raise, they would ask monthly like clockwork. I urge you to do the same. Ask your manager for milestones. What do you need from me? What would you need to see from me to ask for a raise next month? Engage them in the process.By taking these steps, and avoiding my former employees pitfalls, you can ensure youll be paid what youre worth and help close that pesky pay gap along the way.

Gender diversity provides huge benefits in the workplace. pWhile some industries have made significant advancements in gender diversity, some industries lag further behind... and the construction industry is well-known for being in the latter category. If someone say s, construction workers, youll likely picture a group of men in yellow hard hats analyzing an architects plans or laying bricks on top of a scaffold. And men at work signs only help to reinforce this image.pThis stereotype is rooted in reality. When was the last time you actually spotted a woman on a construction site? Or hired a female plumber or carpenter? Your answer is most likely never. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statisticsreports that only 3.4% of the total of 8.3 million construction employees are women.pBut the construction industry has a lot more to offer than steel-toed boots and hard hats, and it needs women to help advance the industry in this era of rapid change. Here are 5 reasons why women joining the workforce or looking to make a pivot should consider a career in construction.h21. Fuel Innovation/h2pNot only is diversity the socially and morally right thing to do, but it is also actually an excellent business strategy. pResearch presented in the Harvard Business R eviewshows that diverse teams develop more innovative ideas. This is further supported by a study conducted by Gallupon the performance of gender-diverse teams versus single-gender teams, which found that the difference in backgrounds and perspectives led to better business performance and problem-solving. h22. Capitalize on Demand/h2pThe construction industry is currently experiencing a labor shortage. The industry itself is booming and projected to be one of the fastest-growing industries, with total spending projected to exceed $1.45 trillion in 2023/a. However, most construction companies are unable to meet the rising demand. pAccording to the Associated General Contractors of America/a, more than 80% of contractors are experiencing difficulties filling hourly craft positions that represent the bulk of the construction workforce.pAnd demand isnt limited to individual contributor roles. Given the industry boom, there are a number of open stable and high-paying roles (any project managers out there?) waiting for the right candidateh23. Leadership Opportunities/h2pAccording to the Bureau of Labor Statistics/a, women compose only 7.7% of the total 1 million managerial positions in construction.br/pBut given the highly collaborative nature of construction work, more women in leadership roles would help drive innovation and enhance productivity.Furthermore, as a woman in construction in a leadership position, youd have the unique opportunity to drive change for the industry and make it a more attractive option for other women.h24. High-Income Potential/h2pSalaries for many skilled positions in construction are on the rise, making a construction career a prime choice for women looking for a high-paying job,pThe 2018 Construction Craft Salary Surveyconducted by the National Center for Construction Education and Research revealed that salaries for many skilled craft areas are increasing. Project managers and project supervisors topped the list at $92,523 and $88,35 5, respectively. The next set of highest-paying jobs include those of combo welders ($71,067), instrumentierung technicians ($70,080), pipe welders ($69,222), power line workers ($68,262) and industrial electricians ($67,269). Of the 32 categories of workers in the survey, 19 positions earned an average salary of $60,000 or higher.h25. Sense of accomplishment/h2p The construction industry can give employees a unique sense of achievement. Yes, the job is stressful and the work can be demanding, but nothing beats the feeling of being able to build something from the ground up. pHow many professionals in other industries can point at a school, a hospital, or a skyscraper and say I helped build that?pThe construction industry has a long way to go in combating gender bias and supporting women in the workforce, but given the current demand for workers, theres no better time to pick up a sledgehammer (figurative or literal) and smash the gender stereotypes plaguing the construction indust ry.
